Mike has taken the position as General Manager and Head Trainer and oversees all aspects of the Ranch and Training Operations. He is responsible for the overall running of the ranch as well as to set up each horse’s individual training program. He generally meets with each owner to set a plan as to where the individual horse should show and what division that they would show in. He specializes in Futurity and Derby horses in both the Open and the Non-Pro.
Mike grew up in the San Joaquin valley in California. He graduated from Cal Poly SLO and then went on to do Masters work at UC Davis. From there he and Barbi started Boyle Performance Horses. He mainly trained all around horses and showed AQHA until 1995 when he showed in his first NRHA event. From there he was hooked and slowly moved over to Reiners exclusively. He has made the finals in almost every major event. In 2009 he was the NRHA Intermediate Open Reserve Futurity Champion and the Prime Time Open Futurity Champion winning $87,000+- during that year on Hick A Shine. Along with his many Open wins, he is well known in the industry for his huge success in helping Non-Pro’s. Mike was also on the NRHA board and Executive Board of Directors for 8 years and then voted by his peers to be the 2007 NRHA President. He took a year off of showing during his Presidency to help run the Association that he has been so closely involved in. Mike was also inducted into the WCRHA Hall of Fame in 2009, the second largest affiliate club in the US.
Mike joined the Darling 888 Ranch team in 2011. This move will enable him to ride and train some great Open and Non-Pro horses and have a top notch facility to prepare his horses at.
